Artist's Comments

I was going through my clarinet book from 6th grade and my teacher had drawn this graph. It's very true, so I decided to make it in paint. :)

What happens if you just have air and emboucher, but no sound...?

I may be running on empty, but I'm not gonna be stoppin' anytime soon...

I binge comment.......sorry.

What I guess I'm wondering is if it is better to have that green unmarked sound with air and emboucher or the purple unmarked sound with emboucher and focus or the orange unmarked sound with air and focus.

Well if you have no focus, your sound is very spread out. If you have no air the sound is weak, and some notes won't even come out at all. If your embouchure isn't good, then you'll usually get a bright, harsh, unrefined tone. None of those three sounds are good, and not one is better than the other two.

Cool. To think I've been in a band for 5 years and don't know what embouchure is. My sound must be horrible.

Wow! Do you take private lessons? Usually you go into embouchure during those. In band it's occasionally mentioned, at least it my school.

No I just took it up at school.
Not a very strong music school so I can see why embrouchure wouldn't be mentioned. Right now I'm being very lazy whilst trying to compose music. (a failure of a combination if I do say so myself). with any luck though I'll have a Panic at the disco song and a black eyed peas song arranged for band by basketball season. I've also realized that I've typed rather a lot haven't I?
